This walk focuses on the area between Orleigh Park and Davies Park. Originally known as Coombes Swamp it is today known as Hill End.
This part of the Kurilpa Peninsula has a history which cannot be separated from the river. The fertile river flats have been the beneficiary of millenia of regular flooding events and as a result proved attractive to early settler farmers.
The Aboriginal tribes also would have taken advantage of the abundant wildlife in and around the lagoons which covered large areas of this corner of South Brisbane. In recent times the area has undergone a transformation.
Once the river was lined with major industry. These are rapidly being replaced by apartment buildings built over the former Coombes Swamp.
