Boundary Street has a long and fascinating history. It has been central to West End's growth from an outstation of a penal colony to the bustling commercial and community centre it is today.

BOUNDARY STREET TIME LINE
Pre European – Indigenous people live here for millennia
1824 – First official European contact (John Oxley)
1842 – Brisbane town boundaries surveyed (Wade)
1846 – Town boundaries proclaimed
1856 – “Aboriginal people and other nuisances” formally excluded from town boundary after 4pm and on Sundays
1884 – Boundary Hotel (original Boundary Hotel 1865)
– West End Police Station
1885 – J P Davies Pharmacy Boundary & Vulture St
1888 – City of South Brisbane declared 1st Mayor-W Stephens
1886 – Line of shops (Tanos Pharmacy) 197 Boundary St
1890 – Pearson’s Building 173 Boundary St
1890 – Horse drawn tram service introduced
1897 – “Aboriginal and Islanders Protection and Restriction of the Sale of Opium Act”Formal beginning of the ‘Reserve System’
1898 – West End - New Farm electric tram service begins
1910 – West End Gospel Hall 225 Boundary St
– West End Picture Gardens (open air theatre) later Lyric Picture Theatre until 1960. Boundary & Vulture St
1925 – South Brisbane amalgamated into City of Brisbane
1927 – Samios Hardware (now 7/11) 201 Boundary St
1928 – Kurilpa Library - 1st purpose-built municipal library in Qld
– Peters Arctic Delicacy Company Boundary & Manning St
– Tristrams Soft Drink Factory Boundary Street fiveways
1939 – Westella Building Boundary & Jane St
1941 – Dornoch Terrace over-bridge completed
1969 – Tram lines removed
